I was challenged by a co-worker to make this recipe! They are doing the NoSugarTODAY challenge from the Today Show and saw this ice cream featured. Everyone knew I had previously made those delightful avocado cocoa bomb cookies, so they knew I was up for making a non-traditional item. I’m not sure she thought I’d actually do it though. Friends know I don’t turn down a dare – even not in dare form.
I tried to find a recipe that was sugar-free, dairy-free and all-natural, but still would taste not (too) healthy. That proved difficult. So I created a hodge-podge of ones already out there.
And only 5 ingredients – plus extracts for a little extra flavor!
A really important step? Don’t forget to de-pit and soak your dates. I bought pitted because – ease.
My favorite ingredient? The avocado, the all-time best ingredient to add to ANYTHING! Healthy fat…which helps stop baby brain (Babies suck out your fat cells in your brain to create their own healthy bodies.), and an easy creaminess factor without dairy.
Shove it all in a blender. I use a Ninja. 😉
Finished product! Easy, healthy and it works for those who are detoxing and following a no-sugar diet. Even the cat loved it!

These were a huge hit at work! And with me. I devoured this. Like little magic balls of bitter chocolate.
The original recipe came from The Smoothie Lover, but I took out the egg. Why? Because I ran out. So, if you have the egg, I suggest you follow their recipe and add in that one egg. More protein! But, then it makes it 6 ingredients. The first time I made this recipe I used the egg, so I was really nervous to make them without. But still delicious!
This little guy recommends eating this with a tall glass of Cabernet. I agree. He knows what he’s talking about – as his name is Monsieur Cupidon and he’s a wine and chocolate expert.
Here it is. The full ingredients. Not much to it, is there? Two avocados, coconut sugar, dark cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips and baking soda. And the egg if you want it. I didn’t taste a difference, really, so pop that egg in!
Blend the avocado and coconut sugar. I used the food processor bowl of the Ninja. After you do this, blend in the egg if using.
Mix in the dark cocoa powder and the chips. Use a mini cookie scoop to portion them out.
Eat, drink and take a nap! Lucky cats just sleep all day.
